Introduction

UNStudio, founded in 1988, is a Dutch architectural design studio specializing in architecture, urban development and infrastructural projects. The name, UNStudio, stands for United Network Studio, referring to the collaborative nature of the practice. Throughout more than 20 years of international project experience, with already over 70 projects in Asia, Europe, and North America, the studio continues to expand its global presence with recent commissions in among others China, South Korea, Italy, Germany and the USA. And it has won many awards.

From the outset UNStudio has been fascinated with the concept of motion in architecture in its broadest sense: physical motion, imaginative motion and conceptual motion. This interest is not only physically evidenced by many of our projects to date, but has equally remained a constant in its theoretical output. UNStudio takes ‘motion’ as one of numerous factors which act as incentive and motivation for further research and invention in our work and in its approach to the practice of architecture. UNStudio in Motion therefore presents how, through continuous re-evaluation, UNStudio’s work has evolved over the past 10 years.
